If you're thinking about selling a publishing business - book, newsletter, production, or other - we'd be honored and delighted to work with you. Listing businesses for sale with Anvil Brokers We normally begin the process of selling a business by appraising what we think the business is worth and what it might fetch in the marketplace. At the bottom of this list is a form we ask clients to complete and return to us to get the process started. It doesn’t take long to fill it out Eventually, we would like to see verifiable financial data on your business - for the past three years, if information is available. It especially helps for us to have tax returns and, if you are incorporated, the P&L statement and balance sheets your CPA prepares for filing with your tax returns. If your business is not incorporated, or doesn't have a sales record, don’t worry – there are still ways to sell it. We advertise the business in a variety of ways. We start with a classified ad on our Web sites, which have around 300,000 unique visitors per year, mostly folks interested in the book business. Perhaps most important, we have a database of some 25,000 names and addresses - email and snail mail - of people in the book business. These contacts include authors, publishers, bookstores, wholesalers, retailers and distributors. We circulate information on your business – without specifically identifying you or your business by name – to lists where we think buyers might be interested. We work on a commission basis - $1,000 for any sale under $10,000; 10% for any sale from $10,000 to $100,000; 9% on the second $100,000 ($9,000), 8% on the third $100,000 ($8,000) declining progressively to 1% of the10th $100,000. Commissions are negotiable if a sale hinges on them. We don't require you to list exclusively with us, but if you do list, we have a simple agreement for you to sign. It’s designed to assure that you understand and agree to our terms. The form we would like for you to complete and return to us is below my signature. We will send you the second form – the simple agreement - after we get this one, which takes longer to complete.
