Emmerich, Anne Catherine, and Clemens Brentano. The Dolorous Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Anvil Publishers, 2005.

More than 40 scenes in Mel Gibson's "Passion of the Christ" movie are drawn from the visions of Anne Catherine Emmerich, a 19th-century Westphalian nun, stigmatic, ecstatic and inediac. Her visions were recorded over the course of six years by German romantic poet Clemens Brentano, who sat by her bedside daily to record what she was seeing while in trance. Includes a 100-page introduction by Noel Griese, who explains not only the visions but how they fit in Passion devotionals and how Mel Gibson used them to craft his film.

Poor, Deborah Day, LCSW. Peace at Any Price: How To Overcome the Please Disease. Rainbow Books, 2005.

Peace at Any Price is a self-help book written for individuals who suffer from “the please disease.” Deborah Poor calls such folks “peace-at-any-price” people, and they are placaters who seem to live only to please others (or avoid angering them).  After reading the checklist of peace-at-any-price characteristics, you will immediately recognize some poor soul in your life who is a sufferer. Ms. Poor helps the reader identify peace-at-any-price traits and offers help — from her personal and professional experience and the experiences of others — for overcoming the please disease. Peace at Any Price features a recommended reading section and an index.
